Montse Subirana
I am a research member of the Group of Advanced Studies on Violence at Universitat de Barcelona. I teach Psychological Assessment and Psychology of the Individual Differences at Universitat de Barcelona (Faculty of Psychology), and Psychological Assessment on Language Disorders at the Speech Therapy Degree at UVic-Universitat Central de Catalunya.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Barcelona and my degree in Psychology at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. I completed my doctoral Thesis ‘Motivation to change and therapeutic compliance in Batterer Intervention Programmes’ under the supervision of Dr. Antonio Andrés-Pueyo and my master thesis also focused on men involved in intimate partner violence. I was awarded a Research Grant to obtain the European Doctorate Mention and my research focused on the study of attitudinal and motivational variables and their influence on perpetrator compliance with therapeutic programmes. As a practitioner I’ve worked as a psychologist assessing women victims of gender violence as well as assessing men in perpetrator programmes. I expanded my horizon as a Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow at Dalhousie University (Canada), School of Health and Human Performance, at the Gender and Health Promotion Studies Unit, in the fields of Sexual and Gender Diversity.
Psychology is the science of Human Behaviour and I am amazed by the diversity of Human Behavior and Personality. Why are we as we are? Why are we so similar and so different? This is the reason why I enjoy teaching Psychology of the Individual Differences and Psychological Assessment and my current research focuses on any of this topics.
