Field Trips

Depositional Systems

    1. Lacustrine

    2. Lacustrine deposits are nicely exposed in the Ebro basin, which was endorheic during Oligocene and Miocene. Particularly well-exposed is the lacustrine Mequinensa Fm, which includes lacustrine delta sandstones, clays, silts, limestones, and coal seams.

    3. The dataset includes outcrop characterizations and numerous mining wells. The lacustrine deposits are also accessible to the subsurface via a dense mining grid. Geochemical data and facies models complete some of the available teaching resources.

    4. Primary discussions are to be focused on:

    5. Transport and sedimentation processes responsible for the different facies

    6. Stratigraphic subdivision and origin in terms of supply, climate, tectonics …

    7. Origin of coal

    8. Coal as a resource

    9. Reservoir analogue characteristics of lacustrine deltaic sandstones
