09.10.2014 On September 30, WWF presented worldwide the Living Planet Report, a diagnosis that we publish every two years to assess the environmental state of the planet through three indicators, the Living Planet Index (HPI), which measures the status of biodiversity through population trends of vertebrate species, and the ecological footprint and water footprint measuring humanity that makes use of renewable natural resources that provide us the planet. + info
   
Parental care affects embryonic development in a freshwater fish.
08.10.2014 An article published in the journal Animal Biology indicates that parental care improves embryos' development in the river blenny. The article is signed by experts from the Department of Animal Biology of the University of Barcelona (UB) Dolors Vinyoles, Noëlle Fabre and Eduardo García Galea, who is also member of the Biodiversity Research Institute of the UB (IRBio).

Which contains all the Catalan names of plants documented around the country. UB research group studies the loggerhead turtle that nested in Tarragona's coast.
10.09.2014 A group of researchers from the Department of Animal Biology and the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio) of UB is going to analyse some genetic samples of the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) which nested in the beach L'Arrabassada, in Tarragona, on 25 August. + info
   
coffee plant genome sequencing and analysis.
05.09.2014 Researchers from the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Biodiversity Research Institute of the University of Barcelona (IRBio) have participated in an international consortium which has newly sequenced the genome of the coffee plant Coffea canephora. The study, which has just been published in the prestigious journal Science, reveals secrets about the evolution of caffeine. Results show that genes involved in caffeine evolved independently from genes with similar functions in tea and chocolate. + info
