Analysis of management and conservation of large carnivores.

"Analysis of conflicts management and conservation of large carnivores: wolves and bears in the Regional Game Reserve in Cantabria Saja" is the Final Master Project Biodiversity of the UB 2014 conducted by Jonathan Rodriguez Ramiro.

This work arose from the need to assess and describe the demographic, and environmental factors that affect livestock predation and the correlation between certain factors and damage to livestock and beekeeping. The populations of Iberian wolf (Canis lupus) and grizzly bears (Ursus arctos) in the Cantabrian Mountains seem to recover in wilderness areas where man seems to have forgotten traditional methods of grazing and the prevention of damage to livestock producing conflict between measures conservation and management of the species.

This project has been very well received by the Dirección General de Montes del Gobierno de Cantabria and use it in the future Wolf Management Plan in Cantabria, which will be published shortly.

The work was carried out thanks to the collaboration between the Universidad de Barcelona, el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, la Consejería de Ganadería y la Dirección General de Montes del Gobierno de Cantabria.

Dr. María José López Fuster, professor of the Department of Animal Biology, Faculty of Biology and member of the Research Institute of Biodiversity, was responsible for project coordination.
