Educational program Discovering the deep sea

Research staff
From the LIFE ECOREST project, in which the University of Barcelona participates as a partner, the educational program "Discovering the marine depths" is promoted, aimed at primary and secondary school students from schools in the provinces of Girona and Barcelona.

The aim is to raise awareness of the fragility of deep marine habitats and the need to protect them. Through this activity, the students will be able to devise projects to promote the care and protection of the sea.

The educational program will start in early 2024 and registrations are now open for those educational centers interested in participating.

LIFE ECOREST

The LIFE ECOREST project aims at restoring nearly 30,000 hectares of deep marine habitats in Catalonia in an area of high ecological value along the coast of Girona and Barcelona, with the active participation of the fishing sector.

This initiative, coordinated by the ICM-CSIC, has partnered with the Federation of Fishermen's Brotherhoods of Girona, the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica and the Demographic Challenge, the University of Barcelona and WWF Spain, in addition to count on the financial contribution of the LIFE Program of the European Union.
