Impacts of fishing and climate change on marine ecosystems

Dr. Daniel Pauly is professor of fisheries in the Fisheries Research Center, University of British Columbia, of where he was director between 2003 and 2008, previously worked at the International Center for Living Marine Resources Management (ICLARM) in Manila, Philippines. In 2008 he was awarded the Ramon Margalef.

 

The areas of work of Dr. Pauly include fisheries management and ecosystem modeling. The last 10 years his research has been focused on the impacts of fishing and climate change effects on marine ecosystems and food security. He has recently published the book Five Easy Pieces: How Fishing Impacts Marine Ecosystems, which shows the great impact of current industrial fishing on marine ecosystems.

 

 

The session will conclude with a panel discussion and question and answer session with the participation of:

Dr. Alex Aguilar, Professor of Animal Biology.

Dr. Luis Cardona, Professor of Marine Biodiversity Conservation.

Miquel Ortega, OCEAN2012 political coordinator.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Rebecca Goldburg, Director of Marine Science of the Pew Environment Group.
