IRBio-UB participates in the course on biodiversity organized by the Ibero-American Union of Univers

The future of the conservation of biodiversity is part of the great changes due to the global impact of human activities, where man has the capacity not only to transform his own life but to transform the planet. The future repercussions of these changes are unpredictable throughout the planet, and in this scenario, it is important to look for alternatives to manage biological wealth.

In this context, the Ibero-American Union of Universities (UIU) has organized the international Biodiversity 2017. The UIU is a consortium formed by the five largest universities in Latin America, the University of São Paulo, the University of Buenos Aires, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universidad de Barcelona; which was formally established in June last year (http://www.ub.edu/web/ub/es/menu_eines/noticies/2016/06/059.html) and has the support of the Banco de Santander and It has already begun to implement various training and research actions. Within the area of strategic relevance of biodiversity, Dr. F. Xavier Sans, Professor and Director of the Biodiversity Research Institute of the University of Barcelona, has participated in the design of the international course.

The course will be held at the Institute of Biology located in the University City of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) to Mexico City, Mexico. The objective of this is to convey relevant knowledge about the conservation of biodiversity and to gather for five days professors and students of the 5 Universities to exchange and debate ideas concepts and methodologies for the study of biodiversity.
The course combines the theoretical sessions and the exhibition of case studies on the conservation of biodiversity and the challenges in which it is currently in the different natural systems. Dr. Alex Aguilar, Professor and Vice President of Projection and Internationalization of the University of Barcelona, will be one of the experts in the course that will give a seminar on the conservation of biodiversity in marine systems.
The course will be complemented by visits to the National Biological Collections, the National Biodiversity Laboratory, the Botanical Garden, the Greenhouses of the Institute of Biology and the Ecological Reserve of the Pedregal of San Ángel located in the University City.

The Vice President for Projection and Internationalization of the University of Barcelona, through the Institute for Biodiversity Research, has awarded grants for postgraduate and doctoral students interested in the subject.
