Plenary Conference at the XVII ASAEE International Congress of Anthropology

The XVII ASAEE Anthropology Congress was held from September 2 to 5, 2025, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Canary Islands, under the theme “Antropologías comprometidas” (Engaged Anthropologies) This edition was conceived as a space for reflection and action in the face of contemporary challenges — climate, social, political, and economic crises — advocating a critical and transformative anthropology that places people, communities, and territories at the center.

The opening plenary conference was given by Susana Narotzky, Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Barcelona and director of the Reciprocity Study Group (GER).

Under the title Future Projects and Imagined Futures. Spaces of Social Continuity in Dispute: An Ethnographic Case, Susana Narotzky discussed the articulation between political economy and moral economy in the production of space.
