About GER

The Grup de Estudis de Reciprocitat (GER, Reciprocity Studies Group) began its trajectory in 1998 with a nationally funded project on “Reciprocity as a human resource”. Since then, it has developed numerous research projects that make critical theoretical contributions to the concepts of reciprocity, responsibility, care, sustainability, social justice and inequality. The ultimate goal is to understand the processes of social reproduction and the possibilities of continuity of human communities in diverse and conflicting socio-cultural, political, economic and ecological environments. We approach the problems from theoretical perspectives related to radical political economy, moral economy, feminism, legal anthropology and political ecology. The GER’s methodology is mostly based on ethnographic research but includes analysis of archival material and other documents. The group has been recognized as a consolidated SGR group by the Generalitat de Catalunya (AGAUR) continuously since 2005 (2005-2009, 2009-2013, 2013-2017, 2017-2021 and 2021-2025).
