Josep Perelló

Full Professor at UB, physicist, researcher at UBICS, working on complex systems. I am the leader and founder of OpenSystems. I focus on citizen social science and I have run collective experiments related to human behaviour and with more than 10,000 participants involved. I have been responsible for Laboratori Arts Santa Monica in Barcelona (2009-2012), coordinating the Barcelona Citizen Science Office until 2019 and curating the Barcelona Science Biennale (2019 and 2023).

Isabelle Bonhoure

Researcher and project coordinator. Doctorate in Materials Science (University Paris XI, 2000) and Master in Scientific Communication (Pompeu Fabra University, 2005). I am especially interested in the processes of co-creation with groups of citizens in a situation of vulnerability and in researching how social citizen science can combine top-level research with actions of social transformation.

Anna Cigarini

I have a Master’s in Sociology and Demography (Pompeu Fabra University, 2018), a Master’s in Population Studies (University of Groningen, 2015) and a Degree in Statistics (Università Milano-Bicocca, 2013). I am currently a doctoral researcher (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) and also a collaborator in Dimmons (IN3 – UOC). My thesis focuses on analyzing citizen science as a common system of governance through digital technologies.

Ferran Larroya

Graduate in Physics (University of Barcelona, 2019) and Master in Physics of Complex Systems (IFISC, University of the Balearic Islands, 2020). I am currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Barcelona (UBICS). My research focuses especially on the study and mathematical modeling of collective social behavior and human mobility through public and participatory experiments and from the point of view of complex systems.

Rebekah Breding

I have a MSc. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability from ICTA-UAB, I have several years of experience researching topics such as climate change, agricultural production, and water system management. Since 2023, I have been involved with OpenSystems and the Horizon SENSE.STEAM project, focusing on amplifying social inclusion and gender equality in STEAM education through citizen science.

Martín F. Díaz

Physics graduate from UNAM (Mexico) and Master in Applied Mathematics from the University of Waterloo (Canada), specializing in fluid dynamics. Currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Barcelona, focusing on implementing stochastic processes in citizen science projects, combining continuous mechanics at the mesoscopic level with statistical physics at the discrete constituent level.

Marc Sadurní

Doctoral researcher (UBICS, UB) since 2021, MSc in Complex Systems Physics (IFISC, University of the Balearic Islands) and Bachelor’s in Physics (UB). My research focuses on developing mathematical formulations using agent-based models, stochastic processes, and continuous-time random walks to address inequalities, segregation, mobility, and welfare in urban environments.

Ivan Casanovas

Bachelor’s degree in Physics (2023) and a Master’s degree in Physics of Complex Systems and Biophysics (2024). Highly interested in social physics, I am currently working on analysing data from a Telegram chatbot as part of the CoAct for Mental Health project. The aim is to study the participatory dynamics within the chatbot and to characterize social support networks in mental health with connections among lived experiences shared by the chatbot.

Former member: Franziska Peter

Postdoctoral researcher, programmer and scientist in the CoAct for Mental Health project since September 2020. PhD in Physics (Universität Potsdam, Germany, 2019) and graduate with a diploma in Physics (TU Dresden, Germany, 2015). She has programmed a chatbot that allows us to collect data related to mental health social support networks.

Former member: Julian Vicens

Telecommunications Engineer and MsC. Telecommunications Networks (Ramon Llull University). Currently I am finishing a PhD (Rovira i Virgili University) focusing on designing and developing platforms to study human behaviour in public and participatory experiments. My research combines social experimentation, complex systems analysis and the design of experiences that promote scientific participation.
