Maintenance of the garden

Description

Water consumption in apartment blocks is much lower than in single-family homes, as the latter have a garden and / or swimming pool. In case you need to maintain a garden or a set of plants, this consumption can be greatly reduced by following the tips detailed below.

What can I do?

  • Watering plants with a watering canUse native plants that are adapted to our climate. This will reduce the need for irrigation and spend less water.
  • Water only when necessary taking into account the time of year you are in and the water needs of each plant.
  • Do not water during the hottest hours, as this is the time when most water leaks from evaporation.
  • Do not water on windy days, as the water will evaporate before the plant can catch it.
  • When watering, use only the amount of water that the plants really need, as over-watering can adversely affect the plant and waste water unnecessarily.
  • Reuse water from other uses to water the plants instead of throwing it in the sink. For example,
    • if you wash food in a container, you can reuse this water for irrigation,
    • if you have to throw ice cubes, put them in a pot in a plant so that they melt,
    • if you have to change the water of your pets use the old one to water,
    • store in a container, such as a bucket, the cold water that comes out when we start showering and wait for it to come out hot,
    • if you have an activated carbon water filtration system, save for watering the first two tanks instead of throwing it down the sink.
  • If you have an automatic irrigation system, it is recommended to incorporate rain and humidity sensors to avoid watering when not needed.
