Saving water and energy, also when cooking

Description

The way we conduct activities as common as cooking can also directly affect our energy and water consumption. Following these recommendations will allow you to cook food in a much more sustainable way, saving water and energy.

What can I do?

  • KitchenTry to keep the pans or pans covered while you are cooking, as this will save you between 20-30% of the energy needed.
  • Turn off the heat in the kitchen or oven for a few minutes before finishing cooking to take advantage of the residual heat.
  • When using the oven try to open it as little as possible to avoid unnecessary energy loss.
  • Try to cook whenever you can with the pressure cooker in order to reduce the cooking time.
  • If you use the microwave instead of the conventional oven, you will reduce the cooking time and you will be able to achieve an energy saving of approximately 60%.
  • Thaw food by leaving it in the fridge instead of under the tap. You can save about 22 liters of water per food. Avoiding defrosting in the microwave will save energy.
  • Put the cap on the sink when you need to wash any product or food,
such as vegetables, fruit or pans, instead of letting it run
