Research topics:

 

  • Biological treatment (aerobic and anaerobic) of urban and industrial wastewater, including biological nutrient removal (N and P) and membrane treatments.
  • Anaerobic digestion of organic wastes (sewage sludge, organic fraction of municipal waste, pig slurry, crop residues, etc.), including pretreatment and co-digestion.
  • Fermentation of organic wastes to produce value-added products
  • Membrane processes to recover and to concentrate value-added products from residual streams.
  • Phosphorus recovery from wastewater using precipitation processes.
  • Biomethane production using CO2 emissions and green H2.
  • Modeling and simulation of biological processes for the treatment of wastewater and organic wastes (organic matter and nutrient removal, anaerobic digestion, etc.)
