Abstract

In this talk I argue against a new version of fictionalism on scientific models by putting emphasis on the separate roles that the symbolic elements and the iconic/mathematical elements play in scientific models and modeling. The result is a more reasonable (realist) view that although there are bone fide fictional models in science, most models are not ontologically fictional.
