Bodily Self (BS)

I will be running a reading group on the Bodily Self during the second semester. The idea is to review some very recent literature that goes deeper into the set of issues, which gained prominence in the nineties, concerning the connection between the body and bodily experience, on the one hand, and the various forms of self-awareness, on the other. I'd also like to examine some of the main challenges in the area, especially in connection with the elucidation of first person thought.

The readings will be a selection from the following (possibly among others and also depending on the participants' interests):

Bermúdez, J.L. (ed.) (2018) The Bodily Self. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press.

Guillot, M. & García-Carpintero, M. (eds.) (forthcoming) The Sense of Mineness. Oxford: OUP.

de Vignemont, F. (2018) Mind the Body. Oxford: OUP.

de Vignemont, F. & Alsmith, A. (eds.) (2017) The Subject's Matter. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press.

Some key background references are the following:

Bermúdez, J.L. (1998) The Paradox of Self-Consciousness. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press.
