The project “Descobriment de fàrmacs innovadors contra infeccions víriques respiratòries” by Dr. Santiago Vázquez Cruz, member of IBUB, and the Dr. Lieve Naesens, from Rega Institute for Medical Research de la K. U. Leuven (Lovaina, Bèlgica), were one of projects awared by the La Marató de TV3 del 2017, dedicated to infectious diseases.
The objective of the project is the design, synthesis and evaluation of new compounds with activity against the influenza virus and human coronaviruses. The collaboration of the two research groups began more than 10 years ago and has led, up to now, to 14 joint publications.
