Extraordinary award diploma

The University of Barcelona issues extraordinary awards in accordance with the following regulations:

• Extraordinary awards for bachelor's degrees
• Extraordinary awards for university master's degrees
• Extraordinary awards for doctoral studies

These diplomas are awarded during the inaugural lecture of the academic year or at other formal academic events organized by the University during the course of the year.

Certification of equivalence of a foreign doctoral degree

The University of Barcelona manages requests for the study of equivalence of foreign doctoral degrees with official Spanish doctoral degrees issued by the UB. If the request is approved, a certificate is issued to the student confirming the equivalence of their doctoral degree. A bilingual version of this document (Catalan and Spanish) is issued by the Rector. It certifies details including the foreign qualification held by the interested party.

Requests for the study of equivalence should be addressed to the Doctoral School of the University of Barcelona.

A fee is payable for the study of equivalence and the issue of the corresponding certificate, as established annually in the decree on public fees.

Doctoral certificates issued under regulations prior to the introduction of the European Higher Education Area

Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA)

Students must complete a minimum of 12 credits during the research period. Once both periods have been completed, students make a public presentation and defence of their work before an examination panel. Successful evaluation certifies a doctoral student's research proficiency and leads to the award of a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA), recognized across the Spanish university system. The fee is established in the decree on public fees.

European doctorate certificate

All doctoral students who held this award prior to the introduction of the European Higher Education Area will be issued the corresponding diploma, as provided for in current regulations. Academic Management is in charge of issuing certificates and maintains a general record of all certificates that are issued.
