The Bioethics Committee of the University of Barcelona (CBUB) has published a statement highlighting that, in research projects conducted outside of Spain, it is required to request and obtain the corresponding local ethical review.
This procedure aligns with international best practices and helps ensure that the research is adapted to the legal, social, and cultural context of the host country, while also protecting the rights and well-being of participants.
The University of Barcelona and the Institute for Professional Development (IDP) are now accepting registrations for the seminar "Ètica en la recerca amb persones en institucions d'educació superior i el funcionament de la Comissió de Bioètica de la UB", a training session recommended for all UB researchers conducting research involving human beings, their samples, and/or their data.
Due to the widespread power outage in Spain on April 28th, 2025, the comments on the projects from the meeting on April 29th, 2025 may be delayed beyond the usual period indicated in the processing circuit. Additionally, from May 7th to 9th, 2025, the Technical Secretary will be closed due to the attendance to a conference. The requests and correspondence will be attended to in order of arrival starting May 12th,2025. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We are pleased to inform you that a new Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) section has been published on our website. This section is designed to help researchers resolve the most common questions related to the procedures and requirements of the Bioethics Committee.
Additionally, a support document (checklist) has been created within the Forms and Documentation section, which can be used to ensure that all necessary documentation for the review of your project has been prepared. This checklist includes all the required documents to ensure correct and efficient processing.
The Vice- Rectorate for Research has opted for unifying the procedure for sending evaluation requests to the different Research Support Committees, and therefore from now on the NorayDocs platform will be used to send evaluation applications for projects by the CBUB.
