• The seminar will be held from Tuesday 16 May 2023, the International Day of Living Together in Peace, and is about the social inclusion of refugees through sport.
  • The event enjoys the participation of UNHCR, Fundació Barça, the Observatory on Public Law (IDP) and the University of Barcelona.
  • The ‘COMMUNITY’ project of the University of Barcelona is presented at the seminar as one of the sports projects to improve coexistence through its Socio-Sports Meetings.

Tuesday 16 May 2023 will be the International Day of Living Together in Peace, which addresses sport as a means to facilitate the well-being of forcibly displaced people and promote their settlement in society.

The use of sport as a tool for these purposes has been increasing in recent years, both in research and in policy and social action practices. Its objective is to involve refugees and asylum seekers in physical activity for therapeutic and social purposes.

This is why the seminar involves organisations such as UNHCR, Fundació Barça, the Observatory on Public Law (IDP) and the University of Barcelona. Coming from different areas of society, these organisations address social issues related to refugees and sport. The event encourages reflection on these issues and celebrates the International Day of Living Together in Peace, which promotes tolerance, solidarity, respect and peace worldwide.

Organised by Refugees Welcome, the seminar aims to value sport as a means for coexistence and to build a more horizontal society, projecting it as an engine of development and social transformation. Through concrete proposals and experiences, the sport will be analysed as a right and as a means for refugees and migrants.

The seminar will take place in the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Law on 16 May from 5.30 pm to 8 pm. It is free of charge and requires registration in advance through this link: https://bit.ly/44NSQ7F.
