Requirements
The Master in Labour Economics (MiLE) is mainly targeted to graduates in Economics and all the applications will be reviewed by the Admission Committee and ranked according to the selection criteria (see below). Applications from graduates from related fields (Business, Sociology, Labour Relations, Statistics, etc.) are also welcome, but the Admission Committee might request students who do not hold a degree in Economics to follow compulsory introductory courses in Economics and Statistics.
The MiLE is entirely taught in English, and candidates are requested to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of this language (by holding an IELTS or TOEFL certificate, or similar, or by providing evidence of previously completed university-level studies in English).
Selection criteria
The admission process is based on the following selection criteria (with the corresponding weights):
1) Academic records obtained by the candidate in previous degrees. Special importance will be given to the marks obtained in core courses in Economics and Quantitative Methods. Weight: 50%
2) Prior degree related to the master’s contents. Higher value will be given to bachelor degrees in Economics and related fields. Weight: 20%.
3) Motivation letter describing both the academic interest of the candidate in the master’s degree and the eventual professional experience related to the field of labour economics. Weight: 25%.
4) Reference letters (at least two) from former professors who have had a close relationship with the candidate. The letters should reflect both the analytical capacity of the candidate and his/her motivation to pursue a master’s degree. Weight: 5%.

Application Steps
(!) Only complete applications will be considered.
Step 1: Check that you meet the entry requirements and all the required documents are ready. The documents to be submitted in the application phase are the following:
- Copy of your Passport.
- Copy of your Bachelor degree certificate.
- Copy of your Bachelor transcript of records. This document must include the official duration (academic courses), subjects studied, hours studied per subject, grades and the evaluation system.
(!) Academic certificates issued in languages other than English, Spanish or Catalan must be translated by a certified translator in order to be evaluated (see below).
- English certificate (B2 level or equivalent).
- Motivation letter (in English).
- (At least) two reference letters (in English, Spanish or Catalan). Reference letters should be submitted directly by former professors to the e-mail masterlaboureconomics@ub.edu, before the intake’s deadline.
(!) Colour photocopies are not accepted.
Step 2: Fill out the online application form. Please note that you will have to indicate the degree you are applying for. Choose the option “Economia Laboral / Labour Economics” and upload the required documents to be academically evaluated.
Step 3: After completing the form, you will have to pay the €30’21 application fee.
Most major credit cards are acceptable. Applications cannot be evaluated until the corresponding fee has been paid.
Academic Resolutions and Enrolment
Applicants will be notified about the result of the selection process within the deadline established for every intake period (see above). Selected students must accept the admission offer within the deadline, otherwise the application will be considered invalid.
In case of being admitted, you will be required to provide us with the required paper certificates in order to get the final approval and formalize the enrolment. According to the regulation of the University of Barcelona, depending on the country where the documents were issued selected candidates must legalize, translate and certify the papers’ copies to be submitted. The procedure (explained in the corresponding links) should follow these subsequent steps (when needed):

Fees
Student’s fees for university master’s degrees are decreed on an annual basis by the Catalan government and University of Barcelona. Please find below the public fees that correspond to the academic year 2022-2023:
- 1,660.2 euros (60 ECTS | 27.67 euros/ECTS) for students who currently reside in Spain or are EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, China or Andorra nationals.
- 4,920 euros (60 ECTS | 82.00 euros/ECTS) for students who do not currently reside in Spain and are not EU, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, China or Andorra nationals.
Introductory Courses
Students who do not hold a degree in Economics might be requested to matriculate and attend introductory courses of Introduction to Economics (2.5 ECTS) and Introduction to Quantitative Methods and Statistics (2.5 ECTS), whose credits have to be separately paid (the same prices apply).
Equivalence Fee Payment
All international students will be required to pay the ‘equivalence’ fee (218.15 euros). We will send you the fee invoice and the instructions to pay it as soon as we receive all your documents.
Admission Deferment Policy
Students admitted to the programme that are unable to attend may request a deferment of the admission to the following academic year (only once). Requests must be send by email to masterlaboureconomics@ub.edu before September 1st. Each request is reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Please note that deferments are not guaranteed.
