The Reading Group will examine the role and relevance of Immunity to Error through Misidentification (IEM) for an understanding of the nature of the de se, addressing questions about the epistemology and phenomenology of the first-person such as: what does IEM help us explain (e.g. does it help capture the sense in which one’s epistemic relationship to oneself is special? Does it help explain what it takes for a particular body to be one’s own?)? What explains IEM (e.g. does it have something to do with how the reference of the first-person is fixed? Does it have to do with certain basic ways of gaining knowledge of oneself?)?
The final list of readings will be settled on the basis of the participants’ specific interests, and will be open to work in progress by the attendees that touches upon these topics.
The group will meet on Tuesdays, from 13:00 to 15:00, at the Seminar Room of the ex-Departament de Lògica, Història i Filosofia de la Ciència.
