Campaign “Water does not fall from the sky”

Between 2021 and 2023, Barcelona and its surroundings experienced the three driest years since instrumental records were available, causing an unprecedented drought episode throughout the 20th century. This situation led to the application of a series of consumption reduction measures to extend the scarce resources available as long as possible. The University of Barcelona, in addition to applying all the measures that the Government of the Generalitat progressively approved within the framework of the Special Drought Plan (Agreement GOV/1/2020), has carried out numerous actions over the last 25 years to reduce consumption, with which it has achieved savings of more than 70%. With the aim of raising awareness among the university community about the need to consume water responsibly, the UB is promoting the communication and awareness campaign “Water does not fall from the sky”, in line with that of the Catalan Water Agency. On this page you will find all the information and resources for the campaign, as well as the measures that the UB has taken to progressively reduce water consumption.
