METADRAMA, the Theatre Workshop of the Faculty of Philology and Communication, has presented La cueva de Salamanca to over a thousand spectators and won eleven awards at various university theatre festivals

The METADRAMA Theatre Workshop of the Faculty of Philology and Communication, directed since its founding in 2011 by Professor Gaston Gilabert, has achieved great acclaim with its latest production, La cueva de Salamanca, an adaptation of the play by Juan Ruiz de Alarcón. The project has been praised by both audiences and critics, with over a thousand spectators and a tour that included performances at various venues in Barcelona as well as in the city of Toledo.

This performance was selected for four theatre festivals and received fifteen nominations and eleven awards during its participation in the 11th Barcelona University Theatre Festival and the 16th MUTIS Festival. Notable among the accolades are Best Play, Best Direction, and Best Male and Female Performance.

The proposal of La cueva de Salamanca blends artistic ambition with critical engagement: a staging full of humor, dramatic tension, and reflection on the limits of power, knowledge, and justice. With characters full of contradictions and scenes marked by magic and social satire, the production invites audiences to rethink Golden Age theatre from a contemporary perspective.

With this production, METADRAMA further consolidates its role as a space for theatrical experimentation and philological research, becoming an exemplary platform for the comprehensive training of students in our faculty.

On July 9 at 8:00 PM, as part of the 10th UB Theatre Festival “Classics in the Garden” (Ricard Salvat Memorial), La cueva de Salamanca will be performed at the Ferran Soldevila Gardens of the university’s historic building.
