Simona Forti’s lecture: “The Soul of Socrates: Our Never-Ending Debt”

Friday 22 February, 2019 | 6:30 p.m.

CCCB (Montalegre, 5 – 08001 Barcelona)

The Seminar Filosofia i Gènere, affiliated to ADHUC, gives support to Simona Forti’s seminar “The Soul of Socrates: Our Never-Ending Debt”, presented by Fina Birulés (ADHUC–Universitat de Barcelona), and co-organized by CCCB and HERA. The philosopher with an Arendtian background, Simona Forti, underlines the debt that Europe has towards the Greek philosophical and cultural legacy, and reclaims the critical spirit and the spirit of dialogue. Forti, one of the main European voices in the field of philosophy, reminds us of the immaterial debts which are as trascendental or more trascendental than the economic ones. In this sense, she underlines the key contribution of the Classical Greek culture in what we consider today the foundations of the European culture, from philosophy to science or democratic politics. Within the scenario of questioning and reconsidering the European project, Forti reclaims the attitude of philosophers such as Socrates, open to dialogue and example of critical attitude which today is more necessary than ever. Seminar in Italian with simultaneous interpretation in Catalan. Information on ticket purchase at the CCCB website.
