Objectives and competences
Electrochemistry is present in many of the processes that we find in everyday products that we regularly use or consume: batteries, power cells and rechargeable batteries, metals and coatings, electrolysers for the production of hydrogen or chlorine, reagents for the treatment of wastewater, etc. Consequently, there is a need for high-level specific training in this field. The master's degree in Electrochemistry: Science and Technology is designed to contribute to training needs in this area.
The course will provide successful graduates with the capacity to work with industrial sectors in which electrochemistry knowledge is required and to start a research career in this field.
This is a joint degree taught at nine public universities (UAB, UAM, UA, UB, UBU, UCO, UMU, US and UPCT). It brings together a broad spectrum of research groups and teachers in electrochemistry from around Spain. The coordination between these universities represents a unique concentration of the training offer in the Spanish university system. The master's degree has a study load of 60 credits, in accordance with EHEA regulations. The 24 credits for compulsory theory subjects are taken intensively from the month of January at one of the participating universities, attended by all students and teachers involved in the course. This approach favours student mobility and the synergy of knowledge. The master's degree is open to students from any country (as long as they have a good knowledge of the language in which the course is taught).

Access requirements and conditions
General requirementsIn accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, students wishing to be admitted to a university master's degree must hold one of the following qualifications:
- Official Spanish university degree.
- A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
- A qualification issued by an institution outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, applicants must request homologation of the degree to its equivalent official Spanish university qualification or obtain express approval from the University of Barcelona, which will conduct a study of equivalence to ensure that the degree is of a comparable level to an official Spanish university qualification and that it grants access to university master's degree study in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.
Specific requirements
Admission to the master's degree in Electrochemistry. Science and Technology may be granted to applicants holding any of the following qualifications:
1. An official Spanish bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
2. A llicenciatura degree in science or engineering or a related field, obtained under syllabuses in effect prior to the publication of RD1393/2007.
3. An official university degree awarded by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area comparable to those described above, provided that it grants access to university master's degree study in the country of issue.
4. A qualification issued by an institution outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area accrediting a level of training equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees listed in points 1 and 2, and that grants access to university master's degree study in the country of issue.
Students may enrol in the master's degree at any of the participating universities; the Coordination Committee will resolve all issues relating to admissions, accreditation and homologation.
