Abstract

The talk will cover a bunch of issues which arise with respect to fictionalism. I'll begin by clarifying the background problems which fictionalists hope to address, before distinguishing a few different ways of developing fictionalist strategies. With that in place, I'll discuss how the fictionalist can forge a link between fictionality (i.e. what's true in her chosen fiction) and reality (i.e. what's true outside of her chosen fiction). Along the way, I'll make some critical remarks about the notion of "real content" that plays a central role in Steve Yablo's version of fictionalism.
