LINE 2 - THE NUNNERY AND ITS ENVIRONMENT

The female monastery in the rural environment

Regarding the impact of monastic implantation (both male and female) in rural areas, our work aims to analyse the Benedictine monasteries of Sant Daniel de Girona and Sant Cugat del Vallès (female and male, respectively), which have a wealth of documentation on the evolution of their patrimony. The analysis and georeferencing of this patrimony through the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will allow us to learn more about the location and growth of its properties, as well as its typology (lands, forests, cattle, mills). This working methodology will not only allow us to better understand the evolution of its patrimony, but will also bring us closer to its immediate or more distant surroundings: communication routes, spaces for attracting resources, connection with other monastic centres and territorial sphere of influence.
