Eugènia Pujol awarded with a Validate 2020 project from “La Caixa” Foundation to fight neuropathic pain with first-in-class dual agents

A project led by Eugènia Pujol, a PhD student from Santiago Vázquez’s group, has been selected by “la Caixa” Foundation as part of a funding programme entitled “CaixaImpulse Validate and Consolidate projects”.

The project ”Tackling neuropathic pain with first-in-class dual agents” is focused on the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of a first family of dual compounds that interact with two targets which regulate different pathways of neuropathic pain, a chronic and complex disease.

The CaixaImpulse grant (100.000 €) will be invested in a series of in vitro characterization tests that will finally allow to select a proper candidate for proof-of-concept studies in several animal models of neuropathic pain. The main goal is to validate the idea that a more effective treatment of neuropathic pain is possible by targeting different pathways involved in its onset.

This strategy is a multidisciplinary collaboration with Prof. Enrique J. Cobos (Universidad de Granada) and Prof. Francesc X. Sureda (Universitat Rovira i Virgili).
