Research activity

Currently, there are around fifty research groups recognised by the Government of Catalonia that undertake research in all areas of life studies, from the molecule to the living being and ecosystems. The scientific output of the Faculty amounts to over 800 publications per year. Annually, an average of six patents are promoted and funding is received for around a hundred research projects.

The Faculty houses two University of Barcelona institutes: ​​the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio) and the Institute of Biomedicine (IBUB). The Faculty also participates in other UB research institutes, such as Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, the Nutrition and Food Safety Institute and the Water Institute.
