Thinking through Race at the ARSI is a hands-on workshop for research in Jesuit archives. Join us for a conversation with Fabien Montcher, Director of the Center for Iberian Historical Studies at Saint Louis University, and Brent Gordon, PhD Candidate at Saint Louis University, who is currently working at Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu (ARSI) as part of the editorial team (IHSI). They will discuss their experiences at ARSI and share specific tools for navigating the archive. We will then move on to a hands-on workshop: an informal and collaborative space to pose questions and think through possible solutions for doubts and difficulties in relation to research on race and Blackness at the ARSI and/or the Jesuit Archives in St. Louis.

This is a joint event co-sponsored by the Center for Iberian Historical Studies at Saint Louis University and The Making of Blackness project. The workshop is organized by Diana Berruezo-Sánchez (ADHUC-Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Erica Feild-Marchello and Andrea Rueda Herrera.

Attendance requires access links, but is open to new participants who can request information and links from the organizers by writing to makingofblackness@gmail.com.

This activity is a result of the project I+D+i PID2021-124893NA-I00: The Making of Blackness, A Process of Cultural and Social Negotiation from the Bottom-Up, funded by MCIN/ AEI/10.13039/501100011033.
