Course
From April 13 to 21, 2015

Which are the controversies and scenarios of contemporary feminism? How has our perspective on the world changed? What tools does feminism provide to face inequality and oppression? This short course aims at introducing some of the most relevant questions and debates within feminist theory and at reflecting on the currency of its revolutionary potential. By exploring the ideas of four key thinkers, all of them women, and through the reading and discussion of brief texts, we will approach the main theoretical and politcal postulates of feminsim during the past fifty years, such as the affirmation of sexual difference, the questioning of the system sex-gender, and the analyses of the intersection between racism and sexism in postcolonial scenarios. The course will conclude with a panoramic view of and a general debate on feminist thought during the XXth and XXIst centuries through the lucid formulations of the Belgian philosopher Françoise Collin.
