Universitat de Barcelona
Online

Mariela Fargas Peñarrocha (ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona) coordinates the course "Life testimonials. Women of Barcelona from the 16th to the 18th centuries", within the Gaudir UB program. This course studies the lives of women from the 16th to the 18th centuries: from their birth to their old age and death, to their childhood and their configuration as adult women. The aim is to study life experiences within the world, families, married life, the street. We therefore exclude cloistered life. On this trip we will stop at specific women, with names and surnames, born in Barcelona or linked in some way to the city (for example, by family), who left written testimonials of their life experiences, their emotions or their problems and conflicts, depending on the stage they were living in. These testimonials have come to us directly, from their own hand, or indirectly, through other documentation now preserved in the archives. In this course we will see how the women of that time lived, how they suffered, how they fought and how they were moved.
