The doctoral candidate Mari Carmen Vila, "Marika", will defend her doctoral thesis, directed by Marta Segarra (CNRS and ADHUC), entitled "El cos okupat: iconografies del cos femení com a espai de la transgressió masculina en el còmic". Through the perspective of gender studies, this thesis reflects on the construction of stereotypes in graphic novels. At the same time, it analyzes the usurpation of women’s bodies made by the dominant discourses, which silences women authors and reduces their works to being just "feminine style". The analysis highlights the instrumentalized representation of an occupied body in order to portray its effects on the authors’ expressions and to display the strategies of resistance that these women embody through the pluralities of self-representation.
