Pía Rodríguez Garrido, CONICYT predoctoral researcher at ADHUC, will defend her doctoral thesis, entitled Fortalecimiento de la mujer en la decisión de un parto en domicilio en Chile, and directed by Dr. Josefina Goberna Tricas (ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona). This research deals with the events surrounding the history of home birth from antiquity to the present period, from a theoretical, methodological and empirical approach. In this sense, philosophy, archaeology and the anthropology of birth were the epistemic approaches that allowed to approach the reality of home birth together with the tensions, challenges and social meanings for women and their families involved in carrying it out. The thesis is structured on the basis of a compendium of scientific articles published in high impact journals. The first objective of the thesis was an exploration of the social and health care representations of home birth, which resulted in the article "Exploring Social and Health Care Representations About Home Birh: An Integrative Literature Review". The second objective was focused on analysing the concept of safety of home birth, which resulted in the article "(In)safety of home birth: An Integrative Literature Review". And finally, the third research objective, an analysis of the social meanings that women give to home birth in the Chilean context, gave rise to the article "Birth Cultures: A Qualitative Approach to Home Birthing in Chile".

The defence will be public through Zoom. It is necessary to register in advance by sending an email to fil-doctorat@ub.edu up to 48 hours before the event. The event will be held in Spanish.
