Mònica Rius Piniés has been elected as the new Director of the ADHUC-Theory, Gender, Sexuality research centre, replacing Helena González, who has held this position since the creation of the centre in 2016, accompanied by Josefina Goberna in the secretary.

Mònica Rius Piniés is also director of the UNESCO Chair "Women, Development and Cultures" at the University of Barcelona and Serra Húnter Associate Professor in the Area of Arab and Islamic Studies. Her research interests focus on contemporary Arab literature, gender studies and the social history of science and medicine. She has examined the construction of new identities in Spain through literature written by women writers of Maghribi origin and through Orientalism in cinema. She has also studied popular astronomy in al-Andalus and North Africa and the role of science in al-Andalus. The post of secretary of the ADHUC will be held by À. Lorena Fuster, researcher and academic vice-dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and head of the Philosophy and Gender Seminar-ADHUC.

In parallel, a new ADHUC Board of Directors has been created with representation from permanent staff (Cristina Alsina, Rodrigo Andrés, Mariela Fargas, Josefina Goberna, Helena González, María Xesús Lama, Mònica Rius, Marta Segarra), non-permanent staff (Margarita Castells, Montserrat Crespín) and pre-doctoral staff (Sara Soler, Antonio Terrón, Andrea Villar). ADHUC, therefore, reinforces its structure to face the challenges presented by gender and sexuality research.
