Judge Cruz Melchor Eya Nchama's visit
On 28 January 2026, we will welcome Judge Cruz Melchor Eya Nchama from the Geneva Tribunal to Barcelona. This visit will give members of The Making of Blackness, BADEMS, and contributors to the collective volume, Iberia negra: textos para otra historia de la diáspora Africana (siglos XVI y XVII) (edited by Diana Berruezo-Sánchez, Manuel Olmedo Gobante, and Cornesha Tweede, Routledge: 2024), the chance to discuss their work, its inspirations, challenges, and impact with Judge Eya Nchama. Additionally, it provides the opportunity for a conversation about the ongoing research that builds on these initiatives and about the judge’s own interest in the history of Black Africans and Afrodescendants in early modern Spain. We look forward to the visit and see it as a way to form connections between researchers and leaders beyond the academic sector.
