Registrations Open for the international workshop on “Language, Democracy, and Political Trust”
Registrations are now open for the international workshop “Language, Democracy, and Political Trust: An Interdisciplinary Perspective from Political Theory, Political Science, and Sociolinguistics” (program), that will take place next November 18th at Room Gabriel Oliver of the Facultat de Filologia i Comunicació at the University of Barcelona (UB) (map).
This workshop is organised by the members of the research project “Language and political trust in multilingual Catalonia (Linguatrust), funded by the Institut d’Estudis d’Autogovern, Generalitat de Catalunya, and it will address, among other topics, the relationship in multilingual democracies between the use of different linguistic varieties and the construction and perception of political authority and trust, as well as the normative implications of this relationship.
The event will feature presentations Dr. Kathryn A. Woolard (University of California) and Dr. Matteo Bonotti (Monash University) as plenary speakers, and also papers by Iker Erdocia (Dublin City University), Philippe Chasse (Sciences Po Paris and Université de Montréal), Kaitlin Alper (University of Southern Denmark), Núria Franco-Guillén (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Linguatrust), Staffan Himmelroos (University of Helsinki), Antoine Bilodeau (Université Concordia) and Maria Rodó-Zárate (Universitat Pompeu Fabra).
This event is funded by the Institut d’Estudis d’Autogovern and is organized with the support of CUSC-UB.
