8 researchers join the UB School of Economics in 2020

The UB School of Economics welcomed 8 new researchers in 2020. More specifically, an assistant professor and a guest professor joined the Department of Economics; a postdoctoral researcher, two assistant professors and a Beatriu de Pinós research fellow joined the Department of Economic History, Institutions and Policy and World Economy; and two postdoctoral researchers joined the Department of Econometrics, Statistics and Applied Economics and the Department of Economic, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics. The new UB School of Economics researchers are:  

François Cohen: He joined the Department of Economics as a guest professor. He is also an honorary research fellow at the Institute for New Economic Thinking and the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford. He received his PhD in Economics and Finance from Mines Paris Tech Graduate School in 2014. François has previously held postdoctoral positions at the University of Oxford, the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and the London School of Economics. His research fields are Development Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, and Health Economics.

Federico Demaria: He joined the Department of Economic History, Institutions and Politics, and World Economy as a Serra Hunter assistant professor. He is also an associate researcher at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB). He obtained his PhD in Ecological Economics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2017. He has worked throughout his career at institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management, University of Leeds, or the Erasmus University Rotterdam. His main research interests are Development Economics, Economic Growth, Environmental and Resource Economics, Macroeconomics, Political Economy, and Public Economics.

Tomàs Fernández-de-Sevilla: He joined the Department of Economic History, Institutions and Policy and World Economy as a Beatriu de Pinós research fellow. He completed his PhD in Economic History at the Universitat of Barcelona in 2013. He has previously been lecturer at the University of La Laguna and Kurgan-van Hentenryk postdoctoral fellow at the Free University of Brussels. He is working in the area of Economic History. 

David MoriñaHe is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Econometrics, Statistics and Applied Economics. He received his PhD in Mathematics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2013. He has previously held postdoctoral positions at the Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics, Catalan Institute of Oncology and the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology. His main fields of research are Health Economics and Mathematical Economics. 

Juan Carlos Palacios: He joined the Department of Economic History, Institutions and Policy and World Economy as an assistant professor. After completing his PhD in Economics at the Universitat de Barcelona in 2013, he worked at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and the Universitat Blanquera-Ramon Llull. His research interests are Development Economics, Economic Growth, Political Economy, Regulation Economics, and Inequality.

Guillem Riambau: He joined the Department of Economics as an assistant professor in February, 2020. He is also a research fellow at the Institutions and Political Economy Research Group (IPERG) at the Universitat de Barcelona. After completing his PhD in Economics at Boston University in 2012, he worked both at Yale-NUS College (Singapore) social sciences department, and the National University of Singapore economics department. His main fields of research are Behavioral and Experimental Economics, and Political Economy.

Matthieu SimonHe is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Economic, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics. He received his PhD in Mathematics from the Université libre de Bruxelles in 2017. Matthieu has been a research fellow at the Université libre de Bruxelles and the University of Melbourne. His research interests are Mathematical Economics, and Risk and Insurance.

Enrique Jorge SoteloHe is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Economic History, Institutions and Policy and World Economy. He was awarded a PhD in Economic History from London School of Economics in 2019, where he worked as a fellow at the Department of Economic History. His research fields are Economic History, International Finance, and Political Economy.
