Universitat de Barcelona School of Economics

Ramon Alemany

Dean of the Faculty

The Universitat de Barcelona School of Economics is the centre for research and postgraduate education in economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona (UB). Its mission is to build a reputation for internationally excellent research in major fields of economics.

The UB School of Economics pools the key strengths of the faculty in three research areas: Growth, Trade and Spatial Economics; Public Economics and Policy Analysis; Behaviour, Games and Risk.

The UB School of Economics offers two postgraduate programmes taught entirely in English: the university master’s degree in Economics and the doctoral programme in Economics. The master’s degree is a two-year programme designed to provide students with the analytical and quantitative skills they will need to work in the public and private sector or to conduct research. The doctoral program has been distinguished with the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science quality award.

The UB School of Economics aims to create an environment through which the faculty can excel, attracting new researchers at both senior and junior levels. It provides technical support to researchers for funding applications, project management and the dissemination of results, and aims to promote the transmission of major findings outside the academic setting by increasing interaction with wider society.

The UB School of Economics will contribute actively to the goal of consolidating Barcelona’s status as a European capital of economic research and a pole of attraction for international students and researchers.

The UB School of Economics comprises four departments, three research institutes and twelve research groups with official status granted by the Catalan government, all of which are affiliated to the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona:
