Gamification in foreign language teaching in adults: a study based on design.

This research proposal focuses on the study of the effects of gamification in the teaching-learning processes of foreign languages in adults in both private and public language centers in the Spanish state. The study follows a methodology based on design, which will allow the elaboration, implementation and subsequent evaluation of various gamified didactic interventions (GDI). To do this, first the language teachers involved in the study will be trained to be able to design their IDGs according to their educational contexts, taking into account their teaching needs and access to ICT resources. Then, as the central point of the study, the IDGs will be implemented with the follow-up and support of the research team. In this phase, the data will be collected with questionnaires to students and teachers, interviews and recordings of the implementation of the IDG to a selection of the sample, in addition to the collection of the products made by the students as a result of the IDG. Finally, a retrospective analysis of the design experiment will be applied, which will provide conclusions on how gamification influences the teaching-learning processes of foreign languages.

In short, this study aims to provide knowledge about gamification as an educational approach to language teaching, design a variety of IDGs as effective and useful curricular products, and, at the same time, provide professional development to teachers that generate sufficient motivation for a continuous implementation of teaching innovations in relation to social and educational needs regarding the learning of foreign languages.
