Helga Jorba Noguera, who was a predoctoral researcher at Seminari Filosofia i Gènere-ADHUC, will defend her doctoral thesis Guia de perplexos. La dimensió política del pensament de Maimònides, co-supervised by Dra. Fina Birulés and Dra. À. Lorena Fuster (Seminari Filosofia i Gènere-ADHUC). This thesis highlights the political dimension of Maimònides thought through the discussion of three themes: 1) Providence in relation to politics; 2) Law in its function of providing the welfare of body and the welfare of the soul; and 3) Prophecy as a form of political knowledge that uses our rational and imaginative faculties. The work uses as a starting point the investigation of Leo Strauss, whom considered, rather unorthodoxically, that the most suitable framework to understand the work of Maimonides was political, emplacing it in the context of the problem of the role of the philosopher in the city. Using this opening approach of Strauss, but without having to assume the doctrine of esotericism that follows from it, we show Maimonides as an original political thinker that strives to make the inherited tradition understandable and which values political reflection as a form of being in the city.
