CONNECTING CULTURAL OPERATORS

PRESENTATION

30 years ago, the University of Barcelona started a great adventure: with the complicity of CERC – Diputació de Barcelona- and a team of great professionals, it launched the first Master in Cultural Management, not only in Catalonia and Spain, but also in the whole Ibero-American region. Throughout these three decades we have trained thousands of professionals from more than 70 different countries.

One of our fixations/obsessions throughout this time, and driven by Eduard Delgado from the beginning, has been to promote network cooperation and international connectivity among cultural operators. In this line, we’ve organized in 1990 in Barcelona the meeting prior to the constitution of ENCATC, the European network of cultural management training. But the last decade of crisis in South Europe has complicated the mobility of professionals and the long-term investment that these contacts require, particularly among the new generations of cultural managers. For this reason, we would like to celebrate our anniversary with a meeting that serves to connect our young promises of cultural managers with a select group of international connectors.

During the “Connecting cultural operators” meeting, we would like to give young cultural managers the opportunity to speak directly with professionals with a broad agenda and a lot of network cooperation experience. All this using a methodology that combines the debate on the challenges of cooperation and international projection with a series of participatory workshops where each of the invited connectors, accompanied by a senior cultural manager, will present international experiences and listen to the proposals of young cultural managers participants.

The number of participants in the connectors’ meeting is limited to 80 young professionals born after January 1984, who will be selected by an ad hoc committee that will consider different information sent by the participants (via form on this page). The shared language of the meeting will be exclusively English.
