Understanding the contribution of cellular senescence to Alzheimer´s Disease

Dr Ana Guerrero lead this research line, as a Ramón y Cajal position in the University of Barcelona.

Even though the accumulation of senescent cells is a key hallmark of ageing, and ageing the biggest risk factor for AD, the involvement of cellular senescence in the brain remains underexplored.

The general objective of this project is to further our understanding of the contribution of cellular senescence to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer´s Disease. Here, we will explore new therapeutic interventions to tackle senescence and senescence-induced inflammation in the brain by using in vivo models of neurodegeneration and cognitive decline, as well as senescence reporter mice.
