Kick-off of the BESTEPS with Antonio Cabrales
On February 10, 2025, Professor Antonio Cabrales delivered the BESTEPS Opening Lecture titled “Workflows of Economic Research.” The session provided a comprehensive framework for navigating the research process, blending principles, exercises, and examples of personal experiences.
BESTEPS (Barcelona Essential Skills Training for Economics PhD Students) is a new PhD training programme at the UB School of Economics, funded by the Doctoral School of the UB (EDUB). This programme will include a series of lectrures, aiming to systematically leverage the experience of top economists to guide PhD students through every key stage of a research project—from identifying and adapting feasible projects, to effectively communicating findings, and to navigating the publication process.
The programme was made possible thanks to the PhD representative at the UB School of Economics, Mengwei Lin, along with former representative Daniel Favre and many fellow students. They successfully secured additional funding for training activities within the PhD programme. For the first time, the EDUB launched a funding call of this kind, and BESTEPS was a selected proposal for the 2024-2025 academic year.
