This video presents a procedure for the elution of bacteriophages from sewage sludge, compost and bio-waste samples. The user should, prior to analysis, validate the method for the specific type of sample to be analyzed: sludges, soils and bio-wastes. 

Recorded in the laboratories of the MARS group in the department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics, Faculty of Biology of University of Barcelona. Funded by the MARS group, the Water Research Institute of the University of Barcelona and the Environmental Laboratory, City of Santa Cruz (California, USA). 

This protocol was developed and standardized during the EU project (HORIZONTAL-HYG) Horizontal Standards on Hygienic Microbiological parameters for Implementation of EU Directives on Sludges, Soils, Soil Improvers, growing Media and Biowastes. Project/Contract no. SSPI-CT-2004-513660. The detailed protocol document that can be downloaded corresponds to deliverable 2_4.5 and the working item 00308099 submitted to CEN (European Committee for Standardization) from this European project.
