The Seminari Filosofia i Gènere—ADHUC organizes the 31st Laboratori de Tesi. In this new session, PhD student Catalina Mir (ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona and collaborator of LiCETC-Universitat de les Illes Balears) will present the work she is doing for her thesis project, under the direction of Elena Losada (ADHUC- Universitat de Barcelona) and Margalida Pons (LiCETC-Universitat de les Illes Balears).

This research deals with the relationship between space and violence in five crime novels published in the historical collection "La Negra" by Edicions de la Magrana. Each novel corresponds to one of the five women present in the list of authors of the series: in order of appearance in the catalog, they are Maria Antònia Oliver, Maria Aurèlia Capmany, Assumpció Maresma, Assumpta Margenat and Margarida Aritzeta. In the work of these writers, pioneers in the cultivation of the black genre in Catalan, the violence and space represented are always affected, creating a dialectic. Violence is an act of excessive force that can make space emerge, transform, or dissolve; at the same time, space―understood as a sociocultural product―has the capacity to affect the violence that takes place in it, whether to revive it or to dim it, to project it or to hide it.

The session will be held virtually and with limited capacity. To attend, it is necessary to register in advance by sending an email to adhuc@ub.edu. Registration is given on a first come, first served basis until November 18.
