Book 'Palestine, Literature and Memory. Reflections by Ibrahim Nasrallah', Catalan edition
The book Palestina, literatura i memòria. Reflexions d’Ibrahim Nasrallah is the first title in the Palestina en paraules collection, edited by researchers Mònica Rius, Danae Fonseca, and Hanan Jasim, with the collaboration of ADHUC. The volume, published in a bilingual Catalan–Arabic edition and illustrated by Palestinian artist Zaid Ayasa, can be downloaded here. It brings together a conversation with Ibrahim Nasrallah on the role of narrative in preserving Palestinian memory and includes his poem Mary of Gaza. The public presentation will take place in October 2025, and in the coming months a Spanish–Arabic edition will also be released.
The Palestina en paraules collection aims to bring Palestinian literature closer to new readers and to promote the translation into Catalan and Spanish of works not yet available in these languages. With special attention to Palestinian women’s voices and to the intersections between literature, gender, postcolonial studies, and memory, each book is published in a bilingual format, with the original Arabic text accompanied by a visual artwork in dialogue with it. In a time marked by colonial violence and the ongoing genocide against Palestine, this initiative seeks to create a space for critical reading, cultural transmission, and the recognition of the poetic and political power of Palestinian voices.
This book is part of the Facultat 18 initiative of the University of Barcelona, a project launched in the 2025–2026 academic year with the aim of serving as an academic platform on the situation of the Palestinian people, establishing a permanent link with public universities in Gaza, and coordinating and highlighting the actions already taking place at UB in this field.
