In light of public allegations of abuse of power and sexual coercion linked to the CREA group, the research group “COPOLIS. Welfare, Community and Social Control (UB)” and the undersigned members state:
1. Independent and Guaranteed Investigation
We demand the immediate launch of an independent, impartial investigation with full protective guarantees, free from interference by the CREA group or its two associated groups (GRESUD – Consolidated Research Group on Education Overcoming Inequalities, and TSIR – Consolidated Research Group on Sociological Theory and Research Impact), as well as from any implicated individuals. This investigation should address not only the incidents reported in 2025 but also the documented precedents recorded by the University since 2004. It must identify responsibilities, assess possible institutional cover-ups, and trigger the appropriate disciplinary, administrative, or legal measures, including against individuals currently holding leadership or representative roles.
2. Immediate Precautionary Measures
We call for the urgent implementation of precautionary measures, specifically the temporary removal of the directors of CREA and TSIR from their leadership and governance roles during the course of the investigation, and the suspension of all academic functions associated with Ramón Flecha García’s status as an emeritus professor. Their continued presence in hierarchical positions within the Department and research groups compromises the fairness of the process and increases the risk of revictimization or retaliation. The possibility that they may directly or indirectly influence the academic, professional, or evaluative conditions of affected persons or witnesses justifies their preventive removal.
These measures should also apply to any other individuals whose role or proximity could interfere with the process, obstruct the pursuit of truth, or reproduce abusive power dynamics in the academic environment.
3. No Use of University Emblematic Spaces
We also demand that the European Conference on Domestic Violence 2025, organized by the CREA group, not be allowed to take place in the historic building of the University of Barcelona.
