The UB School of Sociology invites applications for a four-year, fully funded PhD position in Sociology, starting in 2026 (tentative). The successful candidate will join the research project “The governance of municipal public real estate assets in Spanish cities”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science.
The project analyses how municipalities manage their public real estate assets, with particular attention to spatial distribution, political rationalities, administrative governance, asset transfer, and evaluation practices. A comparative perspective across Barcelona, Valencia, and Bilbao will shed light on similarities and differences in urban governance.
The selected PhD candidate will be integrated into CRIT. Grupo de Investigación, with opportunities for national and international collaboration.
Essential requirements
- Master’s degree in Sociology, Geography, Urban Planning, Political Science, or related fields
- Strong background in urban studies from an interdisciplinary perspective
- Excellent command of Spanish and English
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including large dataset management
Additional valued skills
- Research knowledge in urban politics, governance and management, urban policy and evaluation, and asset transfer
- Research experience and publication record
- Experience with comparative or policy-oriented research
- Familiarity with spatial analysis
