This paper focuses on understanding, from a managerial perspective, why stakeholders with different identities and agendas engage in value co-creation within a multi-stakeholder ecosystem. Findings show that key motives to participate in a multi-stakeholder ecosystem are: reputation enhancement, experimentation, and relationship building. These also represent the pillars of innovative resource integration practices, which are activated and supported by trust, inclusiveness, and openness.
